BARNESVILLE — Under sunny skies and a comfortable breeze, about 75 people, young and old alike, gathered at Locust Lake State Park in Ryan Twp. to learn about water safety and get a hands-on look at equipment used by rescue divers.


Members of the Ryan Twp. Emergency and Rescue Squad under the direction of Chief Darrell Harris and dive captain Bill Wirtz demonstrated protective gear worn by divers.


Divers David Keck and Christine Haldeman entered the water from the south boat launch equipped with a wireless communicator and underwater video camera, allowing spectators the chance to talk to the divers and see on a video screen what they see underwater.
