Main Street Newnan, a local program aimed at developing and maintaining an exceptional community for businesses, residents, and visitors, recently received accreditation from the Main Street America program for 2017.
The national endorsement recognizes the commitment of community leaders such as Main Street Newnan Manager, Courtney Harcourt. Program performance is evaluated annually, according to Harcourt, and city officials are “proud to recertify our program on the national level.”
“Main Street Newnan has actively worked to preserve and revitalize our district for over 31 years,” Harcourt said. “We are very fortunate to have a community that has supported our efforts through time, and a city that recognizes the value in preserving the heart and soul of our community.”
It is because of that community support, and the growth of the district, that Main Street Newnan is able to offer more new programs than ever, according to Harcourt, particularly local events which provide entertainment for all ages.
“We have a growing community with a lot of vested interest in downtown Newnan,” Harcourt said. “Newnan also has an active group of merchants.”
The latest event, Newnan Nights, came from a recent Leadership Coweta meeting, a community development program sponsored by the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce. A summer event series, according to Harcourt, was high on several of the lists of community leaders participating in the workshop.
Newnan Nights begins June 22 and continues throughout July 13, offering an evening of live music weekly on Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. The scheduled entertainment is family friendly and will also include a variety of games, rides and vendor booths. Many local businesses will extend regular business hours to offer featured specials to local shoppers.
“We are really starting to show the true colors of the district,” Harcourt said.
