The 41-year-old took to their joint Twitter account this afternoon and wrote: “Thank you for all the kind messages and well wishes for the big fella. He will be touched. Your support is, as ever, much appreciated. DD xx”
Only hours before the news broke, Dec was spotted at an airport in London, stopping to pose for a photo with a fan.
Ant, also 41, has been inundated with messages of support from their loyal fans after admitting that he “needs help”.
In an official statement given to The Sun on Sunday, the ITV presenter said: “The first step is to admit to yourself you need help. I’ve let people down. I’m truly sorry. I feel like I have let a lot of people down and for that I’m truly sorry.
He went on to say: “I want to thank my wife, family and closest friends through this really difficult time.
“I have spoken out because I think it is important that people ask for help if they are going through a rough time and get the proper treatment to help their recovery.”
Following the reports, fans of the pair took to Twitter in their droves to wish Ant well.
“We all love you Ant McPartlin @antanddec and wish you the very best! Stay strong and positive!!,” one person wrote, while another added: “Wishing #AntMcPartlin all the very best on his road to recovery. Take as much time as you need to heal and rebuild yourself #NoMoreStigma.”
A third person tweeted: “Sending support to Ant McPartlin, we’re here for you and will support you all the way.”
Robot Wars presenter Angela Scanlon also tweeted her support, writing: “Massive admiration & respect for Ant McPartlin. Sending luck & light… @antanddec”
It’s believed that Ant will undergo treatment for two months, but it is not known where.
The Sun on Sunday reported that Ant has been battling his condition for two years after an operation on his knee went wrong, leaving him in constant pain.
Following his knee operation he began taking the opioid painkiller Tramadol and became addicted.
