Shepard, who died Sunday at 73 from complications related to Lou Gehrig’s disease, had a long and varied career, earning the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1979 for his play “Buried Child” and an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor in 1983 for his portrayal of Chuck Yeager in “The Right Stuff.”
In between, there were a lot of plays and performances. For example, New Kid on the Block Donnie Wahlberg reminded us Monday that he’d appeared opposite Shepard in the 1999 TV movie “Purgatory.”
It was an honor to have known,
and worked with, an absolute legend — Mr Sam Shepard.
