Adrien Broner has rattled off three consecutive wins since his 2015 loss to Shawn Porter, but they have been against so-so competition. He’ll face some top competition for the first time since that loss in the form of undefeated Mikey Garcia in a 140-pound super lightweight bout on Saturday.
The card will begin at 9 p.m. ET on Showtime, and the co-feature bout between Jermall Charlo and Jorge Sebastian Heiland will go first at that time. Other undercard bouts will be streamed on the Showtime Sports YouTube channel, beginning at 7:15 p.m.
Live streaming of the main card can be had online at Showtime Anytime if you have a participating cable or satellite television provider.
Broner has won his last three fights, but they were over lacking competition. He lost to Porter in 2015 and that took a lot of air out of his sails. Broner was hyped among the best to fight in the sport, but that loss, and one to Marcos Maidana in 2013, derailed the hype train significantly.
Garcia is top competition, but he himself is looking to establish his name among boxing’s elite. For Broner, it may be his last shot at showing that he belongs with the sport’s elite while for the undefeated Garcia, it is a chance to make a statement. A win here would put Garcia in contention with the best in his division.
The co-feature will see middleweights Charlo and Heiland face off. Charlo is moving up to middleweight for the first time in his career and he’s trying to establish himself in the deeper, more competitive division.
Other undercard fights will see women’s lightweights Katie Taylor and Jasmine Clarkson face off, as well as heavyweights Jarrell Miller and Gerald Washington clash.
