DEHRADUN: The All India Senior Doubles Ranking tournament, which began in Haridwar on July 26, concluded on Saturday with Kuhoo Garg from the state playing in the finals of women’s doubles and mixed doubles. Garg bagged silver medal in both the categories.

Uttarakhand Badminton Association president Ashok Kumar told TOI, “Though we are disappointed that no player from Uttarakhand won the finals, we are hopeful that more number of players from the state will make it to the Olympics. However, the good part is that my daughter, Kuhoo’s national ranking would be in the top 10 in both the categories after this tournament.”

After a gap of nearly a decade, Badminton Association of India (BAI) designated Uttarakhand with the opportunity to host 2017 National Badminton Championship.

This is the first time that senior doubles ranking tournament was held in the state. The senior ranking tournament was last held in Uttarakhand in 2007. A total of 265 players from across the country have participated in the tourney. All India Senior Ranking tournament will be held in Dehradun in September.
