"There is great anger in our Country caused in part by inaccurate, and even fraudulent, reporting of the news", Trump tweeted. "He's talking about the growing amount of fake news that exists in the country".

Trump has faced widespread criticism for a Monday tweet in which he referred to "Fake News Media" as "the true Enemy of the People" in the wake of a violent week that saw a spate of over a dozen bombs mailed, including one to CNN, and a shooting that killed 11 people at a Pittsburgh synagogue. "That is outrageous that that would be the very first reaction of so many people across this country".

While Trump has condemned the Pennsylvania shootings as an anti-Semitic act and has decried political violence, he also has continued his political schedule over the past week and largely kept up his criticism against Democrats and the media.

He added that the media "must stop the open & obvious hostility & report the news accurately & fairly".

The White House has pushed back against the suggestion Trump should change course.

There have been mixed responses to Trump's plan to visit.

"The very first thing that the president did was condemn the attacks, both in Pittsburgh and in the pipe bombs", she said Monday at the White House.

Gene variants typically have only a modest effect on risk, but when taken together they could possibly have a large impact. Less than 15 percent of women who get breast cancer have a family member diagnosed with it.

However, Jeffrey Myers, a Tree of Life rabbi who was in the synagogue when the heavily armed gunman burst in on worshippers, said Trump would be welcome if he visited.

"I think the president has had a number of moments of bringing the country together", she said.

But he quickly reverted to form, attacking the media and potential Democratic rivals for the presidency at a rally and on Twitter as Americans looked forward to crucial midterm elections November 6. "He is certainly welcome", Myers said on CNN.

The US president is visiting the city today to campaign for next week's mid-term election. Last week, the NY offices of CNN, the cable network frequently criticized by Trump and his supporters, was evacuated after receiving an explosive device and an envelope containing white powder.

"Wrong! I said that the 'Fake News (Media) is the Enemy of the People, ' a very big difference", he said.

On Saturday night in a rally in Southern Illinois, Mr Trump was somewhat muted, but still offered his standard campaign attack lines, including citing Hillary Clinton and representative Maxine Waters, both of whom were targeted in the bomb plot.
