As first reported by the NFL's Ian Rapoport, the Houston Texans have traded a 4th round pick and swapped 7th round picks for Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas. After news broke of Denver dealing Thomas and a seventh-round draft pick to the Texans in exchange for fourth- and seventh-round picks, Broncos linebacker sent this comically heartfelt message to Thomas via Twitter. This season, Thomas (6-3, 229) has recorded 36 receptions for 402 yards (11.2 avg.) and three touchdowns in eight games with Denver.
Demaryius Thomas knew about the trade rumors, but he said he woke up Tuesday thinking about playing for the Broncos, the franchise that drafted him in 2010 and the only one he had been part of since. The team also could restructure Thomas' deal in the offseason. He has five consecutive seasons of at least 90 catches and 1,000 receiving yards. Houston's interest in Thomas no doubt picked up with both their recent surge to the top of the AFC South standings, and the loss of starting wide receiver Will Fuller for the year.
Svitolina overcomes Bertens in gruelling WTA semi
Sloane Stephens has battled back from dropping the first set to love to reach the final at the WTA Finals . Stephens moved into a 5-3 lead and held on to take the set 6-4 after 83 minutes.
Thomas had acknowledged rumours of a trade in recent weeks, guessing there was a "50-50" chance it would happen, although he wanted to remain in Denver.
If Keenum had looked good and the Broncos had a winning record, then shipping Thomas to the Texans would have been unthinkable. That can't be great for team morale, and for what it's worth, the betting line on the game has moved from Broncos -2.5 to a pick 'em. Seeing NFL teams, from real contenders like the Rams and Eagles to aspiring contenders like the Texans and Redskins, making deals is pretty damn cool.
