"The Company is continuing to monitor ongoing developments in the region, and there can be no assurances in this regard", WWE said.

Khashoggi entered the Saudi consulate in Turkey's Istanbul on October 2 to obtain documentation for his upcoming marriage, but he never left the place.

A statement published by the company on Thursday acknowledges the apparent murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate offices in Istanbul. Turkish police took a water sample from a well at Saudi Arabia's consulate in Istanbul, Hurriyet newspaper reported.

As the diplomatic backlash continues, members of the European Parliament voted overwhelmingly Thursday to adopt a resolution that urges EU countries to impose an EU-wide arms embargo on Saudi Arabia.

Turkish officials have discounted the ability of Saudi Arabia to conduct a credible investigation, given suspicion that the royal court was behind the operation. Trump appeared to support the Crown Prince at the time.

The young crown prince has denied having knowledge of the alleged assassination mission and on Wednesday promised to bring those responsible to justice.

News of the call appeared to calm growing speculation that Turkey was edging toward implicating the crown prince, whose ambitions for a modernized Saudi Arabia have been undermined by his penchant for making enemies at home and overseas.

"What we know is sufficient to suggest very strongly that Mr Khashoggi was the victim of an extrajudicial execution", Agnes Callamard told Al Jazeera.

According to reports, Vince McMahon was never prepared to pull out of the event and only if he was forced by the USA government would the WWE have changed location for the event.

The report said King Salman and Prince Mohammed offered their condolences to the family of the Saudi journalist.

At least 18 Saudi citizens have been arrested in connection to the killing, as NPR has reported, and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Tuesday that 21 Saudi suspects would have their U.S. visas revoked and/or not be granted new ones.

As the shocking revelations mount, Turkey is pushing Saudi Arabia for more detail.
