'Venom': Tom Hardy Says His Son Thought He Wasn't Playing Him Right

As I posted yesterday, Tom Hardy stated in an interview with YouTube channel "ComicsExplained" that his favorite scenes to film from Venom were in the 30-40 minutes cut from the film. Dark comedy scenes that just never made it. "I took him right out there and played with it and had a lot of fun because there's a lot of fun you can have with a project and with this character and I've done that. So we didn't want to exclude them from seeing the movie".

Venom releases on October 5.

Tom Hardy's Venom touches down in theaters nationwide this weekend, and the review embargo has been officially lifted today. "The Dark Knight" [the 2008 "Batman" film] was always a huge reference point for me, personally, just as far as how far you could take a PG-13".

Venom is a weird beast, because on the one hand it's a very bog standard superhero origin story (even though the movie's tagline tells us the world has enough superheroes) and on the other it's nearly a body horror alien possession movie - but it never quite gets there.

Tom Hardy has already received the most important approval of all for his new role as Venom.

Splashtons, did you know that Venom comes out in just a few short days?

- Perri Nemiroff (@PNemiroff) October 2, 2018Tom Hardy's performance in #Venom is either Johnny Depp in the first PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN or Chris Klein in STREET FIGHTER: THE LEGEND OF CHUN-LI. And if I wasn't already a bit anxious about Sony's Venom, I was extra anxious now; could a movie about a Spider villain succeed without Spider-Man? In honesty, there's probably seven hours or more worth of footage of me playing Venom and enjoying myself.

Going from bad to worse, Hardy then appears to make a joke comparing himself to another ill-fated comicbook actor of recent years - Ben Affleck.

Venom is directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) and features a cast that includes Tom Hardy, Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, Woody Harrelson, Jenny Slate, Reid Scott, Scott Haze, Sope Aluko and Ron Cephas Jones. I can't jump for joy at the news of bonus features we've been used to for 20 years, but I guess I see how that could cause some to dance. "Too bad they are not gone to search for a classification of R-Rated".
