Ramirez's lawyer, John Clune, says agents want to interview her and she's agreed to cooperate.

Democrats for days have been demanding an FBI investigation into the sexual misconduct allegations against Kavanaugh, but Republicans had refused to seek one.

Ramirez works for the Boulder County Department of Housing and Human Services.

Shortly after the Judiciary Committee convened Friday, the panel voted down a motion on party lines by Sen. The investigation into sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh came at the request of Arizona Republican Sen. Angus King, an independent who caucuses with Democrats, has already said he will vote against confirming Kavanaugh.

Feinstein, the ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee's ranking Democrat, says she honored Ford's request for confidentiality, and she did not ask Kavanaugh about the allegations in his confirmation hearings or in a private meeting. But what exactly the FBI will investigate still remains a mystery.

David Gomez, a former FBI counterterrorism supervisor in Seattle, said typically FBI headquarters will divide up leads that get assigned to different field offices across the US for further investigation and are assigned a quick deadline. "They could wrap everything".

Trump said in a statement that the additional investigation "must be limited in scope" and "completed in less than one week". He has forcefully and categorically denied them. "Don't look away from me", one woman could be heard yelling to Flake.

The FBI conducts background checks for federal nominees but the agency does not make judgments on the credibility or significance of allegations.
