Swells generated by Hector are expected to reach the southeast and east shores of the Big Island and eastern Maui later Wednesday, and produce large and unsafe surfs.
On the other side of the Pacific, Typhoon Shanshan is approaching Japan with maximum winds around 100 miles per hour.
Hurricane Hector, which had winds up to 155 miles per hour on Monday morning, looks like it will stay south of all the islands, but it's worth watching how this storm evolves over the next several days.

"Very rough surf is expected to impact mostly south- and east-facing coastal areas of the Big Island", AccuWeather meteorologist Dan Kottlowski said.
Residents along the affected shores should be alert for high and unsafe surf conditions. All these conditions tend to be associated with quieter Atlantic hurricane season.
It is moving northeast at 12 mph with its tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from the center.
