The Countdown To 21st Century's Longest Total Lunar Eclipse Has Begun!

A rare astronomical event set to take place this week could herald the "end of days", according to some who have been following the "blood moon" phenomenon, with a number of Evangelical leaders even linking the celestial event to the United States embassy move to Jerusalem.

As explained by the CSIRO the Warlpiri people, who live mostly north and west of Alice Springs, say a lunar eclipse is caused when the Sun-woman makes up ground during her threatening pursuit of the Moon-man.

The Blood Moon was given its name due to the red and orange hue that it shows during the eclipse.

During a total lunar eclipse, the moon passes through the Earth's shadow. But the night-time transformation of the moon into a bloody-red orb can be seen by anyone on the Earth below while it is night.

In those areas, the totality of the lunar eclipse - when the moon will retain its red color - will last for about an hour and 42 minutes.

Although it won't look almost as large as the blood moon, Mars will be its largest in size if you're looking through a telescope and close to its maximum brightness in our sky.

While astronomers are very excited about the eclipse, doom-mongers fear it heralds the end of the world.

Alphabet shares have risen 15 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen 5 percent. Profit dipped 9.3% to $3.2 billion in the second quarter after accounting for the European Union fines , the company said.

A partial lunar eclipse happens when only a part of the moon enters Earth's shadow.

"Because lunar eclipses are easy to watch with the unaided eye, you can just go outside and enjoy the view".

"This is what is called the first contact when the partial lunar eclipse begins", said the Hyderabad centre's statement. That gives you plenty of time to stock up on those eclipse glasses you tossed after the big eclipse past year. The moon is at the furthest point from us in its orbit, meaning it'll take longer to pass through the shadow, thus serving up the longest eclipse we've seen in a century.

The most-awaited phase of the eclipse, the total lunar eclipse, is estimated to set in from 1 am IST on July 28. A lunar eclipse can occur only when the moon is full.
