Super Smash Bros Ultimate characters CONFIRMED: December Release date for Nintendo Switch

Nintendo's showcase at the massive gaming conference E3 on Tuesday left fans reeling for a lot of different reasons, but the most shocking and exciting development for most was that Super Smash Bros. In that group you could find the Smash Bros staples (Mario, Link, Fox, Kirby, etc...), returning favorites like Ike, Snake and R.O.B. and the DLC characters from Super Smash Bros. on Wii U / 3DS: Ryu, Cloud and Bayonetta. Nearly half their Nintendo Direct was dedicated to the iconic fighting game, which was revealed to be called Super Smash Bros.

The title is expected be one of the biggest releases yet for the 15-month-old games machine, and Nintendo spent the bulk of its video presentation describing the game's features.

For the most part, as with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Switch version of Smash Bros. looks to be more of a refinement on what's gone before. Complete with an epic reveal trailer we've come to expect from Smash, Samus Aran's arch-nemesis is on the roster, complete with an amiibo.

Super Mario Party - a mini-game collection that allows players to place two Switch consoles side-by-side to let characters shoot at each other and move between devices. Nintendo isn't really reinventing the wheel here, even if it is picking up the pace of the game to be more like Melee. Characters previously released as paid downloadable content are also included in the game.

Are you looking forward to the next game? Elsewhere, Super Mario Party looks like it will pack in the usual range of button-mashing, frantic motion controls and clever challenges, all wrapped up in a suitably cutesy package. A new GameCube controller was shown off during the presentation as well.

Not a word was mentioned regarding the Pokemon Switch game. Invitational Championship, fans will be hoping to see an entertaining and action packed show from the best players in the professional scene of the title. For anyone still on the fence about an RPG with eight main characters to choose from, you can try out a demo starting July 14, which will carry over save data should you decide to purchase the full game.
