Addressing World Environment Day Event here, Mr Modi said, India's culture is living in harmony with nature.

Everyone addressed plastic pollution yesterday celebrating the UN World Environment Day which this year is hosted in New Delhi, India.

The objective of celebrating world environment day is to bring worldwide focus on importance of environment and to stimulate attention and actions for improving the environment. He informed that India's tree and forest cover has also increased by one percent in the last two years. "And we are obligated to bequeathing a greener and eco-friendly legacy to our children", Kovind said in a tweet.

As the globe is observing World Environment Day on Tuesday, several Indian celebrities joined hands in campaigning against single-use plastic.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also urged people to pledge to "beat plastic pollution".

China warns US against tariffs as trade talks end

More than 64,000 tonnes of plastic packaging is disposed of in household general waste bins and sent to landfill in Scotland each year, costing around £11 million.

He also pointed out that plastic pollution was now entering into the food chain and micro plastics had even entered basic things such as salt, bottled water and tap water.

"Pledges like this ignore the stark reality of what's happening in this country - we've got plastic waste being stockpiled by councils with no place to go, there are no industrial-scale composting facilities for bioplastic and there are no bans on plastic bags, cutlery and other easy-to-eliminate plastic pollution".

In-line with the global theme of "Beating Plastic Pollution", Hyundai's initiatives will focus on reducing the usage of plastics at its manufacturing plant in Sriperumbudur near Chennai and across all its 493 Hyundai Dealerships and 1309 Service Workshops.
