Thane Police Summons Arbaaz Khan for IPL betting Case

Arbaaz Khan has been summoned by the Thane police in connection with the IPL betting scam.

In a letter sent to Arbaaz today, the police asked him to join the probe in the wake of arrest of an alleged bookie who was placing bets on the recently-concluded Indian Premier League, the official said. According to police sources one Sonu Jalan a bookie was arrested a few days earlier and also confiscated a diary from him which had names of all his clients. The culprit is well known to be doing his betting in the country as well as overseas.

An officer said Jalan, in his statement, has mentioned several prominent names who bet huge amounts on certain IPL teams and players. The anti-extortion cell of the Thane crime branch busted the latest IPL betting racket on May 16 by raiding a Dombivli flat and arresting three bookies: Gautam Savla, Nikhil Sampat and Nitin Punjani. "We found the diary during search at his home". While now media reports on the same are sketchy, it is learnt that Arbaaz has been summoned with the intention of him joining the probe into the betting racket.

Son of celebrated Bollywood writer Salim Khan, Arbaaz is the younger brother of superstar Salman Khan and film-maker Sohail Khan.

Sonu Jalan is also said to be associated with Dawood Ibrahim and is a close aide of another top worldwide bookie running the racket. Moreover, Police further noted that they have commenced their investigation into the process.

Jalan was arrested last month by the Thane police in Kalyan where he had gone to meet another accused in the IPL betting case.

We also did notice a number of betting cases registered while the tournament was in progress, this year.
