National Hockey League playoffs 2018: Golden Knights vs. Jets preview and prediction

When they meet starting Saturday night in Winnipeg in the Western Conference final, it will be a matchup between a team that missed the playoffs previous year and one that didn't even play. Instead of one night in a fancy ball gown and magicked-up pumpkin carriage, the Golden Knights have carried their success throughout the regular season and into the playoffs, staving off the stroke of midnight with every victory. In the eyes of many, Marc-Andre Fleury needed to put the Golden Knights on his back for them approach competitiveness.

2 - Karlsson, one of the Golden Knights' best players, had only 18 career goals entering this season.

"I thought we had a couple of opportunities for power plays, we didn't get them", Gallant said. This season, though, they've been pretty evenly matched, with the Caps going 1-1-1.

After going eight-for-eight in the opening round of the playoffs, I fell off a cliff a bit in the second round, going just two-for-four in my predictions. That's the second-highest-scoring second line in the National Hockey League. Scoring in the win was Jonathan Marchessault, which was his 4th of the postseason, Nate Schmidt, which was his 2nd of the playoffs and Cody Eakin, which was his 3rd. I'm not putting anything past this storybook Golden Knights team.

The best season in Predators history ended earlier than a year ago, but in the same fashion on their own ice. Fleury is 8-2 this post season with a save percentage of.951, a goals against of 1.53, and four shutouts. Fleury is 21-5 with a 2.33 GAA and a.917 save percentage in his carer (regular season) against the Jets.

Vegas, here they come.

"Vegas is a brand new team, they're both wicked teams, it'll be an awesome game".

The Knights, whose hometown of Sin City stands in stark contrast to the humble streets of Canada's Winnipeg, are playing with house money after becoming the third expansion team in National Hockey League history to make the playoffs in its first season.

He and his girlfriend booked airline tickets right before the third period of Thursday night's game against the Nashville Predators.

Not only that, but the Jets chased the favorite for the Vezina Trophy, Pekke Rinne, three times in the series, including in the first period on Thursday after taking a quick 2-0 lead.

He said he hoped the widespread interest he generated would spur Australia and other countries to rethink their laws. "I am glad to arrive", he said from a wheelchair at a French airport Monday as he neared his final destination.

The best team doesn't always win, however.

Terry Wall is a lifelong hockey player from Canada who thinks the Vegas Golden Knights could win it all.

Throughout the game, goaltender Connor Hellebuyck made 36 saves and Paul Stastny had two goals and an assist.

NOTES: Scheifele scored seven goals in Nashville, setting a record for most road goals in one postseason series.

The under is 7-1 in the last seven Jets home games.

Back in 2013-14, his first full season as an National Hockey League coach, Tampa Bay's Jon Cooper used nine rookies in the playoffs, a total no team has eclipsed since. In 41 regular season games, Vegas had a 29-10-2 record, which tied for sixth in the National Hockey League.

The Golden Knights have been a big surprise this year, while the Jets come in having won 19 of their last 24.

This series could be won on goaltending, and two of the very best will be between the pipes. Vegas did take two of three in this series during the regular season, so they do have confidence against this team and Marc-Andre Fleury is hot, while the Jets have scored just one goal in their last two games here at home combined.

As the Jets looked into bolstering their depth at centre, Brassard was on the Jets' radar and a solid offer was believed to have been made to the Ottawa Senators, but the Golden Knights became the third team in the complicated deal that sent the centre to the Pittsburgh Penguins instead.
