None of the Ebola outbreaks in Congo have been connected to the massive outbreak in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone in West Africa that began in 2014 and left more than 11,300 dead.

"It's confirmed we have an outbreak of Ebola in DRC".

The first Ebola death was confirmed in a new outbreak and 11 people have now been infected by the deadly virus in Democratic Republic of Congo, including three health workers.

'This situation worries us and requires an immediate and energetic response'.

Two subjects tested positive in an area around the northwestern part of the country, but there are at least 21 suspected cases elsewhere.

However, in the last month, there has been 19 suspected cases of Ebola, with 16 confirmed.

Another is a woman from Ikoko Impenge, the epicentre of the outbreak some 30km from Bikoro, he said.

"After contact, the nurses began showing signs", Ngaleto said.

Seven people with the haemorrhagic fever were in hospital in Bikoro on Thursday, said health minister Oly Ilunga.

"We have isolated the patients", Ngalebato said.

Congo's long experience of Ebola and its vast, remote geography mean outbreaks are often localised and relatively easy to isolate and snuff out.

But Ikoko Impenge and Bikoro are situated not far from the banks of the Congo River, a major artery for trade and transport upstream from the capital Kinshasa. The ongoing epidemic is located in the Bikoro health zone, located in Equateur province, in western Democratic Republic of the Congo and on the border with the Republic of Congo.

Some African carriers including: Cronos Airlines, Air Cote D' Ivoire, Asky Airlines, African World Airlines, Rwanda Air, Kenyan Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines and South African Airways operate flights into their operational hubs that link Democratic Republic of Congo.

Nigeria have already taken measures to stop the disease from entering the country through its border, by tightening security at several entry points. DRC's health ministry said that it had sent a team of 12 experts to find the epicenter of the outbreak and the affected villages, and trace the new contacts of the disease.

Ebola is most feared for the internal and external bleeding it can cause in its victims owing to damage done to blood vessels.
