2 dead in Russian fighter jet crash off Syria coast

State news agency Tass cited the ministry as saying the Su-30 crashed on Thursday morning while climbing after takeoff from the Russian airbase at Hmeimim in Syria's Latakia Province.

Both Albert Davidyan and the first officer were killed in the catastrophe, in which a Russian Su-30SM went down in the Mediterranean Sea after taking off from Khmeimim Airbase. As stated by the Ministry of Defense, a bird got caught in the engine, which caused the crash.

There has been no word from the official media outlets in Syria about the plane crash.

In Syria crashed Russian military aircraft, according to the special correspondent of Barzan Sadiq it happened near the village of Jableh, 18 km from Latakia, near the air base Hamim. The disaster occurred as the aircraft was gaining altitude.
