INDIANAPOLIS-Record stores across IN are celebrating non-digital music, especially vinyl records, on Record Store Day, which is Saturday.

In addition to opening early - the doors of Marsh's store will be unlocked at 8 a.m. - the day features live music from local artists, Record Store Day T-shirts and bags, a barbecue, coffee and cake, and other refreshments.

Record Store Day is an annual event originating back to 2007 and is held on one Saturday (usually just after the middle) of every April.

"As a record store owner it's pretty cool to see as CD sales decline, record sales increasing", said Brady Bredell, Owner of Mother's. "I don't think I've ever been as excited about a list of Record Store Day releases". Here's a roundup of stores in the area that are participating in Record Store Day, as well as some events happening around town.

Beginning on Record Store Day, the folks at Friendly Records in Bristol have decided to make it "Record Store Weekend" with live performances from Snails, Alex Lipinski and Olive Haigh. The limited edition items are often colored vinyl, are numbered, and have special packaging.

Speakertree is Lynchburg's only local record store and has been in business almost 10 years. The Grand Rapids location offered free crack fries with any purchase if someone had a same-day receipt from a record store. The store, ranked one of the top independent record stores in the country, has been buying and selling music and movies since 1980.

Bart's Record Shop 1625 Folsom Street, Boulder Bart's opens at 7 a.m. and is stocking up on special releases like the Grateful Dead's four-LP Fillmore West album, which was recorded on February, 27, 1969; Wilco's Live at the Troubadour; David Alexrod's 1968 debut, Song of Innocence; and the National's Boxer Live in Brussels.

The day is a celebration of the brick and mortar store, and the atmosphere is festive.

Belly. The 10-inch EP Feel is a disc decorated with blue and white spatter - holding four songs, including two new ones from the band's forthcoming album Dove, its first in 23 years - and a cover of Hushabye Mountain from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
