Ander Herrera: Manchester United about finals and titles

Manchester United booked a place in the final of the Emirates FA Cup following a 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

The Red Devils were forced to come from behind to book a place in their 20th FA Cup final as an early goal from Dele Alli put the Londoners in front, only for strikes from Alexis Sanchez and Ander Herrera's second-half victor to settle the contest.

United, aided by a raft of lengthy substitutions, then saw out the victory to reach another FA Cup final, Spurs restricted to shots from distance as their bid for a first trophy in a decade fell short.

Fortunately for the United faithful, a stunning cross from Paul Pogba was sacked home by Alexis Sanchez.

Spurs' wait for silverware continues: Tottenham Hotspur unquestionably have one of the most talent squads across Europe, but their failure to deliver trophies may disintegrate the side sooner rather than later.

Spurs will likely seal their place in the Champions League for a third successive season in the coming weeks as Pochettino's proof that progress is being made.

"But the disappointment and frustration is that we are close but we can not reach".

Aldridge led all scorers with 34 points, thanks in large part to the 32-year-old connecting on all 12 of his free throw attempts. In opposition of Golden State, games involving the Spurs have a slight tendency to finish under the O/U total (51.2 percent).

In the final reckoning, however, it was a familiar story and yet another campaign will end for Spurs and manager Mauricio Pochettino - in his fourth full season - without the tangible reward of a trophy.

To lose one FA Cup semi-final can be unfortunate - to lose eight in succession shows a pattern is emerging.

Son and Eriksen were causing United issues in a dominant opening 20 minutes but the adage that when you are top, you have to make it count never rang truer.

The Chilean, contrary to many reports, received the nod ahead of Marcus Rashford on the left hand side and justified his selection with a perfectly guided header from Paul Pogba's cross to bring Man United level.

As Pochettino pointed out, it did look at first like the FA Cup hoodoo that has hung over Spurs for more than a quarter-of-a-century was about to be exorcised.

The sides went in at the break with the score at 1-1, but Mourinho wasn't happy. "They did and they went on to win". I've still scored two goals in four games. However, Spurs didn't trouble him much despite dominating possession in the second half. As Chelsea and Manchester City can report, being behind against high-end opponents does not overly phase this United team, even when they are seemingly dazed and punch-drunk on the ropes. United's record signing was at the centre of remarkable revelations before the Manchester derby that he was offered to neighbours City and turned in an utterly abject performance before scoring twice to inspire a stunning 3-2 win.
