In grief and outrage over school shootings, the blame repeatedly gets placed on the firearms used.

Judicial myopia (Heller v. District of Columbia), self-serving fear mongering and congressional venality have contorted and perverted the Second Amendment.

But Stevens called on demonstrators to "seek more effective and more lasting reform".

I have said for years; everybody can have a musket. Considering why the amendment was written should lead us to different conclusions about the viewpoints of the NRA.

Fact is. there was a move back then to keep guns away from slaves, but it's actually an anti-gun control issue and not an issue about repealing the Second Amendment. The protesters in last week's march told us with their words and placards that the current debate is ... about banning all guns.

The 5-million-member NRA, formed in 1871, states that it exists to "uphold the Second Amendment and advocate enforcement of existing laws against violent offenders to reduce crime".
