Meal-kits are a $2.7 billion industry.
Walmart's convenience meal options serve two people and range in price from $8 to $15.
The selections are assembled in stores daily and available in the deli section or through the company's online grocery pickup service.

In addition to the Meal Kits being launched in stores, Walmart.com offers an expanded assortment of meal delivery kits and other specialty food items like farm fresh crates and snack boxes. Albertsons Cos., the owner of Safeway, Carrs and other supermarkets, bought online meal-kit service Plated previous year to sell the kits at its 2,300 stores.
According to CNBC, the step taken by Walmart is just paving how major market shareholders of retail will step into the meal market in the near future, and reach to the customers beyond their store walls.
Although several other retailers have tried the meal kit option, a lot of them haven't succeeded in this business venture. Livingston doubts Walmart's meal-kit offerings will have a significant impact, questioning whether the retailer can "pull this off properly".
"It's no big secret that they are offered in other retailers, and we have looked at them previously, but we were not thrilled with quality levels", he said.
