A month after she admitted to an extramarital affair with her then-bodyguard, Nashville Mayor Megan Barry agreed on Tuesday to resign as part of a plea deal to a felony charge of property theft.
She is being investigated by a Metro Council special committee and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for potential misuse of funds.
According to The Tennessean, the two were often partaking in domestic and worldwide travel for work, which led Forrest to rack up $33,000 in expenses and $50,000 plus in overtime in 2017 on top of his $84,500 salary.
"While my time as your mayor concludes today, my unwavering love and honest affection for this wonderful city and its great people shall never come to an end", Barry said in a statement.
Barry will serve three years of probation and reimburse the city $11,000 in restitution.
Barry, 54, pleaded guilty Tuesday morning to a charge of felony theft over $10,000.
In court, Barry didn't say how she stole money from the city, but an investigation found that she was engaged in her relationship with her bodyguard while on city-paid trips.
Do Barcelona really need Griezmann?
Simeone recently said Atletico fans should do everything possible to try to keep Griezmann in the club for as long as possible. "But this is football, and we have to go out there to win the next match and think about how we can continue to improve".
Even as calls for her exit mounted, Ms. Barry maintained a public presence in Nashville and brushed aside suggestions that she should quit.
This comes barely five weeks after disclosing her two-year affair with the head of her security detail Sgt. Rob Forrest.
Her resignation means Vice Mayor David Briley will take over as mayor. It was filed in the Criminal Court Clerk's office, and Barry's attorney said he provided the pass code to the mayor's personal cellphone to investigators days later. But in the affidavit, an agent says he believes a black purse in one nude photo is the same purse found in a different photo of Barry found on Forrest's phone.
February 4: Mayor Megan Barry wants to earn Nashville's forgiveness.
Forrest was the only city employee on at least 10 taxpayer-funded trips with the mayor from the middle of 2016 through 2017 - a period in which the couple were having an affair.
Barry routinely traveled without security before June 2016, records show.
Forrest resigned from the Metro Nashville Police Department after Barry's admission.
