(Note: The Atlantis and Shuttle Launch Experience exhibits are closed today, February 20.) SpaceX's booster display comes as Vice President Mike Pence heads to KSC for the second meeting of the National Space Council. The Falcon 9's first stage set to launch with Paz previously flew on the Formosat 5 mission from Vandenberg in August 2017.

As for the payload, the mission's main goal is to launch Paz, a satellite that'll capture Earth images for a bunch of countries, including, as mentioned, Spain. Explaining the delay in the launch of SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, the company tweeted on Sunday: "Team at Vandenberg is taking additional time to perform final checkouts of upgraded fairing". The new payload faring of Flacon 9 will help to keep the aerodynamic profile of the rocket and it protects the costly payloads from Earth's atmosphere.

It was at KSC's historic Launch Pad 39A that SpaceX launched the Falcon Heavy rocket and its unique payload: a Tesla Roadster (owned by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk) and a spacesuit-clad mannequin dubbed Starman. Now, the company wants to try and recycle a fairing.

Mr Pai said: "To bridge America's digital divide, we'll have to use innovative technologies".

SpaceX is all about reducing the cost of launching things into space, and right now one of those costs it think it can eliminate is having to use a new fairing every time it launches a rocket. But Musk has not lost hope and is on the verge of making fairing recovery a success.

Mr Khosrowshahi detailed them on a conference call with investors Tuesday, and the company made some results public. The figure leaves out legal costs and stock-based compensation, as well as taxes, interest and other expenses.

SpaceX is planning to use a giant net - one so vast that it takes up the majority of a high-speed watercraft named Mr. Steven - to catch reusable gear that falls back to Earth after missions to outer space.

In an incredible accomplishment, the Falcon Heavy's reused side boosters landed smoothly back down to Earth on two separate launchpads about 8 minutes in.

SpaceX does not plan to recover the first stage booster on this mission.

The Falcon 9 rocket will also carry a second payload of note: two experimental non-geostationary orbit satellites, Microsat-2a and -2b. The initial satellites in the network are expected to come online next year.

FCC chairman Ajit Pai praised the so-called Starlink project for attempting to bring internet into those parts of the USA where it is a rare commodity.
